Not all shampoos are the same. At the end of the day, you want to pick one that’s right for your hair type. For example, you’ll want to use a moisturizing shampoo if you have a dry scalp.
Avoid those with parabens or sulfates (e.g., ammonium lauryl sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfate); they can strip your hair of its natural oils, leaving it prone to damage. Not to mention that they can irritate your scalp.
Try to use something that’s made from all-natural ingredients instead (Yves Rocher has a wide selection that you can choose from).
Heat tools such as curling irons or blow dryers can damage and affect your hair texture. If you can, use heat-free methods (e.g., braiding your hair for waves) instead.
If you must apply heat, make sure to use a protectant spray or cream. They’ll protect the hair by forming a physical barrier over the cuticle; this will seal in moisture and protect your hair from heat damage.
Certain oils such as coconut oil, grape seed oil, almond oil, argan oil, and avocado oil can also be used as a natural heat protectant.
Always use conditioner—it’ll strengthen your hair by locking in nutrients. Not only that, but it’ll also restore moisture, which will help prevent breakage.
With that said, you don’t want to use too much; that’ll weigh down your hair and leave you with an unmanageable mane. All you need is a little bit—about the size of a quarter (less if you have short hair).
Spread it evenly on the ends of your hair and work your way up the shaft. Don’t apply it to your scalp; it’ll make your roots greasier than they need to be.
Let the product stay on your hair for a few minutes before rinsing thoroughly with water.
As you can see, there are several things that you can do to get beautiful hair, from using the right shampoo to applying conditioner. Remember, just because your hair isn’t ‘living’ doesn’t mean that you don’t have to take care of it!
